Grant Writing

Successful grant writing is about a lot more than just writing. For start-up and small nonprofits, carving out time to find, write, manage, and submit grant proposals can be challenging. We’ll help you build a robust and effective grants program through:

Building and Maintaining Your Grants Calendar

We will provide ongoing prospect research to ensure your grant calendar includes qualified prospects.

Writing and Submitting Grants

We will work with your team to make sure each submission is well-positioned to align with the priorities of the funder, then write and submit Letters of Intent, Proposals, and Reports that are fully approved by you and your team.

Goal Setting, Strategy, and Coaching

We’ll have a monthly goal-setting meeting to review upcoming submissions, hear organizational updates, and discuss new prospects.

Ongoing Reporting

You’ll receive a monthly report of submitted and pending grants so you have a thorough overview of your grants program.

Receiving grants funding starts with having a well-written proposal that paints a compelling picture of your mission and work.

Giant Squid Group’s Grants Assessment and Boilerplate Package helps bring clarity and focus to your grants program and ensure your proposals tell a compelling story. We’ll work with you to assess your current grant proposals and organizational readiness to pursue grants; offer feedback and coaching on how to strengthen your grants program; and provide you with a clean, crisp grant narrative to be used when submitting future proposals.

Grant Assessment &
Boilerplate Creation

1.

Intake Survey and Strategy Call

We’ll start with an intake survey and an in-depth analysis of your current grants program. We will review previously submitted grant proposals, financials, impact stories, strategic plans, and more, to get a sense of who you are as an organization, and how you can best grow your grants program. Your intake survey is followed by a 90-minute strategy call for our team to learn more about your programs, goals, and grant-related challenges.

2.

Written Grant Assessment & Narrative

Giant Squid Group will take what we learn through our strategy session and create or update your grant language, including:

  • Written Grant Assessment outlining your organization’s grant writing  strengths and areas for improvement;

  • Grant Narrative Template (Boilerplate)  that captures your organization’s mission and history, statement of need, programs, goals, and other important information.

  • One round of revisions based on your feedback and additions.

3.

Wrap-Up Call

Once we have written your Grant Narrative and completed your assessment, we will wrap up the project with a one-hour call. This call is designed for you to ask questions and bounce ideas off the Giant Squid Group team, so you feel confident and excited about launching your new grants program!

“Working with Catherine was nothing short of amazing! Getting our feet wet with grant writing was intimidating as a small nonprofit but Catherine was hands-on, very knowledgeable and got us comfortable with the entire process. Her team was very timely with their deliverables and provided clear instruction of exactly the word they’d be providing. Highly recommend Catherine for anyone who is looking to build robust grant templates, strategize and understand grant writing/funding!”

- Alexa Modero, Executive Director of Backpacks for Life

“We engaged with Giant Squid Group to update our boilerplate grant language to reflect Longy’s goals of being a student agency-focused, antiracist institution. Working with Ashley was a pleasure, as she incorporated our own voice while also focusing and refining language in a way that could be utilized for multiple purposes and freed up staff time on our end. With the help of the updated boilerplate, so far we’ve secured renewals on every grant renewal this year, an increase on one, and re-engaged a lapsed grantor. I look forward to working with them in the future as we continue on this pathway.”

- Courtney Keller, Associate Director of Major and Planned Giving at Longy School of Music of Bard College
